Default Greek Surplus 30.06 from the CMP. SURPRISE!

Along with my CMP Service Grade Garand, I received 200rnds of Greek Surplus 30.06. For some reason, my ammo arrived a day later than my rifle and I wasn't able to pick it up until today.

I cut open the cardboard boxing that the ammo arrived in... and was expecting to find it in a cheapo modern ammo can. TO MY SHOCK, THE AMMO ARRIVED IN THIS:

To the best of my knowledge, this is a WWII vintage 30.cal ammo can that would have been mounted to a machine gun on a tank or jeep!

    Can anyone confirm?!

Yes it is the WWII style but I believe the pattern carried over to Korea as well? But your lid looks different?

I believe WWII cans have 'US' and a flaming bomb on the smooth side/end........

Right, they're a mixed batch of HXP (Greek) surplus. I've seen various dates on the headstamps. The can is what surprised me!
