I have not ever owned a Ishapore but they were made in 1963 as the 2A/2A1 rifles for military issue. There is some specific markings to differentiate between a regular rifle and a sniper rifle but I do not know specifically what it is.
Thanks for posting. Nice piece of history.

Thanks John appreciate it!I have never seen one before but like the caliber.Have plenty of 308 ammo, pretty heavy rifle should handle the recoil. Thanks for the info on ,will try and research some of the markings, there are many on the stock and metal.Doubt its a sniper but you never know, seller did not know what rifle was but said its a 7.62x51 cal.

I picked up for 250 this week the same rifle but dated 1952 but still in original .303 which is hard to find with it dated 1952. Rescue190 is correct. Close to that year they converted all of them to the NATO round to keep up with the world

Thanks FNG for the info!I have heard the bolts were hand fitted to these rifles, not sure if true but nice to have a matching bolt.I though all Enfields were 303,I almost passed on the rifle thinking it was converted to 308.Sounds like you got a good deal on your 303,being they are hard to find.

After the china conflict of 1962 the India army relized they needed to step up the game so they went to the fn fal rifle (.308) they couldn't concert the whole army at once so they started making your rifle for instance in 308 to keep everyone on the same page. 21a rifle (yours) were factory built in .308. Accurate guns and way better then the 2a. Good gun with good history. I would of bought it in a heart beat

Looks nice and a great price for sure. Let us know how it shoots.

An interesting variant on the SMLE type, and not one seen very often. Which is perhaps a little surprising as the bolt action rifle was used by the Indian Police until very recently. I would think a good pick up at $150. There were sniper versions of the No.4 rifle in 7.62mm used by Commonwealth Armed Forces in the 1960's, but I don't think the SMLE was converted for that purpose, unless perhaps for the Indian army.

yes they just stopped using them!!!
BTW thanks anderson with my trench question btw
