    Default Inland M1 Carbine help

    Hi guys,

I am looking at buying a M1 carbine but there are a couple things wrong with it. The first one is that someone drilled a scope mount into the receiver, can that be taken off and have the holes filled? And the other this is the stock, not sure it is original, has been modded with a crappy folding stock. And no, the folding stock isn't a paratrooper one, it is an add on.

    Personally,
I would pursue something more original and un-messed with. If you are looking for a shooter or a restoration project and it can be acquired relatively inexpensively - then why not.

Do you have any pictures???? Where are the holes drilled for the scope mount???
With the information you are providing I would pass on it. The reason is the holes will always be there. Back when carbines were cheap a lot of people did this. Why I don't know. Get me pictures and I can give you a better opinion.

Ok, thanks. Just why should I pass (not trying to be a jerk). It is a good price.

I would pass also. For what you are getting, is not much. I would save your money and buy an already set up carbine. You would need a lot of parts to get this thing back to what would even look like it did when issued.
Then you have the holes in the reciever to deal with. Not worth it.....
    Hope this helps.

I agree with both John's who replied. You mentioned an aftermarket
folding stock and scope mount. That is why you should pass.
It's not original. If it's a really good price, why ask ?

It will cost extra $$$ to buy replacement stocks and will require
some expertise to fill and file the tapped holes if you want
to restore it, so there goes the good price aspect.........

    Steve.

If you want a representative model of what the U.S. GI carried, this is not it. Way too much to restore at that price point.

If you want other opinions post the pictures of it, you can post pictures without posting the link.

There is an ols saying "the cheap comes out expensive" by the time you fix up that carbine you will have a lot of money tied up and it will still be a humped carbine. Follow every ones advise a pursue a real M1 Carbine.
