Default K98: just a serial number

I have a K98 infantry battle rifle I am trying to do research on but all I have is a short serial number and all or any other marks are worn off. It shows a lot of use and wear all over the weapon. There are no inspection stamps or manufacturer stamps. Can anyone give me some advice on finding moe information on it?
