I'm nearly to buy a very nice M 1911 A1 from Union Switch & Signal but I'm wondering something...

Why are the markings in white?

White paint etc to highlight the markings... US&S 45 were in a special serial range. Plenty of US&S slides were floating around some years ago, and put on 45 receivers, the SN. will tell if it is correct or not... U do not have to give the whole sn.. BILL

Everything is correct with the frame. Good SN (No 1053***) and good markings.

I was just wondering about the paint.

So you think everything is ok?

Some sellers use white paint or sometimes chalk to show the markings and serial numbers more clearly to potential buyers. It photographs better. They did not come from the factory with the white on them and it can usually be removed by the new owner.

Usually such highlighting is done with a wax pencil-common on collectors weapons but it's not something I would do-as mentioned they did not come from the factory or depot that way-only sort of thing done by the military like that is the sights on rifles so that they could be seen in low light conditions easily.

A toothbrush should remove the white easily...
