Article about: Hello-how can I find the date of manufacture for this type-has no date on receiver or other parts-Steyr factory made, converted to carbine and 8mm x 56R ammo during 1930s. Thanks.

    I doubt if there is any to date the weapon, unless there is a 2 digit date undeer the wood...BILL

    a picture would help, i have an M1892 Mannlicher and it has a stamp pressed into the wood at the end of the stock, showing factory name and date manufactured, its hard to spot, but just visible

    The rifle concerned is the Austro-Hungarian M1895 Mannlicher Steyr-it is not a French Berthier-the Mannlicher designation refers to the magazine system whereby the ammunition clip is inserted into the weapon and forms part of the feed system-this was a common feature of a number of late 19th century rifles including the German Reichscommission G1888, the Italian Carcarno M1891 etc .
