Hi, also looking at this reworked k98 deact.
Its Preduzece 44 stamped, so its a yugoslavian mauser.
On most parts, geman stamps can still be seen.
So its a war time rifle, right?
Look to be in decent shape, is it worth the buy?
    Cheers

What is the stamping on the top? If it's a torch and star then this is the post WWII communist Yugoslavia crest. Also, how much is the asking price?

    Mark.

    Hello,
If i remember well what i did read about yugo mausers is that 44 is not a year, it's a postwar code for the factory...
    Thanks

Certainly the stock is wartime manufacture ( as indicated by the bolt take-down disc ). I have one almost identical and on close inspection numerous Waffenamts can be found tucked away, 'Preduzece44' is 'Institute44' at Kragujevac in what is now Serbia ; this was the arsenal which reworked K98ks post-war. Most parts will be WWII-vintage but sometimes newly-made barrels were fitted. Careful inspection under daylight will sometimes reveal the original manufacturer marking and date showing faintly on the receiver. The quality of refinish was usually very good and apparently when in storage they were checked, cleaned and refinished where necessary on a five-year rotation.
These rifles often clean up well into very attractive display pieces.

At the end of ww2 Yugoslavia got many German left over weapon, those were reworked and put into service. All correct

44 is just the name of factory as stated above Preduzece 44 means "Factory 44"

Interesting point is the marking made in Latin -meaning it was reworked in Croatia or Slovenia

This is wartime german Kar98, remounted after the war in "remontni zavodi". There were several of these factories, one of them was also "preduzeče 44", factory 44. Name was always written in latin leters, very very rare in cyrilic, almost never. Same is for all others remount factories, as TRZ...
German rifles were then given designation Kar98/48, or Mod 98/48 or just M98/48. M24 prewar jugoslav rifles were designated as M24/47. Czech Vz. 24 rifles were given designation M24/52 (Č) or M24/52 (N), it they were german recapture...
