My brother is cleaning out his gun cabinet so I helped lol Everything is original except for the sling. This is the one that used a cleaning rod bayonet. It does still work, he shot it, I'm waiting for him to cough up a few rounds so I can give it a go. There's just something about these rifles.







still has the cartouche and unit markings. Haven't been able to find much on the unit though.

Thanks Steve. It is in pretty good shape, the extractor on these seems to be the first thing to go, this one looks like it was hardly used over it's lifetime. I can't wait to shoot it, I had an 1873 before and was surprised how accurate that was with the sights it came with. They're so small and hard to see, even when my eyes were better.

Are these in 45-70 caliber ? I suppose the loads are
lighter with modern powders.........

Thanks guys, glad you like it Oops, yes it is in .45-70. My brother reloads for all of his rifles. I have to ask him for sure, but I thought he said he used either IMR 5744 or AA5744. It's supposed to give black powder results with smokeless powder. He had a sharps clone he loaded some black powder rounds for, but I never got to try those. There's one company that loads factory ammunition for old guns, for cowboy action shooting. I can't think of the name off hand, but I've used that in the 1873 I had and it worked pretty good. I'd like to try some black powder loads in this, just to get the feel of shooting the original round.
