Your stock is a wartime production Izhevsk - possibly the original. Interestingly, most during this period were made with just an open oval sling slot in the butt stock and a metal liner in the front sling slot. Yours has a liner in both - which is not often seen. Your other rifle has the late war/post war production pressed sling slot escutcheons.

I made a half hearted attempt at bore sighting it this afternoon... My folk's back yard isn't very large... maybe only 25-30yrds. At this range, things were way off... Would you say this is normal?

Shouldn't be. Are the wind age and elevation knobs set to zero? It appears that you elevation at least is way high. The crosshairs looks almost bottomed out. It should be pretty close to center at that range.
