    Cool My German 1871/84 Mauser

    hello Lads,
This is the second of my group of new additions.
It is the Mauser 1871/84 Rifle made by Spandau.
This was an upgrade from the 1871 (Single Shot) to be the first Magazine fed rifle issued to the German Army. It held 8 Rnds in a tubular magazine.

As it happens I bought a S71/84 bayonet only yesterday that will look great when it is on the wall.

Both the 88 Commission rifle and the 71/84 are nice additions to the collection. Bet your glad you bought the bayonet. It's getting to the point the bayonets cost as much as the guns.

    Hello Samnev,
Yes I am glad mate. I would have bought it to add to my bayonet collection but just recently buying the rifle give me that little bit more of a buzz.

    Cheers

    Hello Paratrooper,
I had just the opposite situation. I bought a bayonet for a Dutch 1895 Hembrug rifle years ago and just recently found a real nice rifle that goes with it. Delayed gratification sometimes pays off.
    Cheers,
    Sam

Paratrooper...superb rifle and to get the correct bayonet is a bonus, the great thing about this rifle is that it has not been butchered, i.e. a deac.......as under U.K. law the 71/84 comes under the "obsolete ammunition" section, and therefore no licence required.....unlike the 88 commission rifle ! I own an 88, a G98 and a Reichsrevolver (which is also licence free !) prices of the 71/84 have shot up in recent years, so I doubt I will be getting one.....thanks for showing. The Regimentals on your 71/84 "109.R.E.3.9" are for the Ersatz-Battalion of Infantry Regiment 109, 3rd company, 9th weapon. Parent Regiment "Badisches Leib-Grenadier-Regt. Nr.109" garrisoned at Karlsruhe part of XIV Armee Korps.
    Prost ! Steve.

I have one myself, not in as good condition as yours-a big heavy piece of kit to lug around especially with the large heavy 11mm BP rounds!
