Default Need Advice on 1915 SS Marked Sniper Rifle...

I got a call this morning from a local guy who explained he has a 1915 dated "Mauser sniper rifle with 5 SS stamps, all in a row". He's an older gentleman who isn't familiar enough with how to send photos via email so I'll be having a look at it this afternoon, hopefully.

What I really need is some advice on what I should be looking for on this rifle to tell whether or not its original. What should the markings look like; where should they be located; etc. If anyone has photos of the correct markings, showing their proper placement that would be awesome!

Thanks in advance for any help!

Thanks Jan, but I'm looking for general info at this point, about what to actually look for when I see the rifle first-hand. Certainly there are some tell-tale markings that would be present on a genuine Gewehr 98 SS sniper rifle that can be explained in words, right?

I was led to believe that SS rifles were not waffenampt stamped as they were not a part of the army. Therefore the eagle and kreuz would not be stamped on a genuine SS rifle. But i may be wrong...

Surely if they were arming the SS with army rifles, they wouldn't b too concerned about a waffenampt. That can't be a cut and dry way to ascertain authenticity
