P38 History

Hi... I have a P38, serial #5216d with an E/359 proof on the frame. The left slide is stamped only P38 and nothing else - no Walther banner or other mark. The barrel matches with the serial no. stamped on the front and it has an "8" stamped on the left side of the front site.

Any way of telling where/when it was manufactured?

Oh ya, it's been Chromed or Ni plated which I hope has not filled in the maker's mark.

Hi Craig,
post some pics. E/359 is Walther military proof.Sounds like they polished the year off.I could probably tell you what year when I see it.
