    Default Sniper Rifle Competition

I shot in the Sniper Rifle Competition this weekend. Since it was not a CMP sanctioned shoot, they allowed all generations of sniper rifles on the line and then just classified the weapons for scoring. There were lots of 03A4s, a few M21s and a few M1Ds - but my teammate and I were the only ones shooting the Soviet PUs. Most people who shoot vintage sniper rifles here consider them to be low quality - "Russian Junk" as they were referred to before the competition.

But, the results say something different. On Day 1 we shot individual score at 300 and 600 yards.Skip and I both held our own at both ranges and outshot many. Clearly, at those ranges, once you have a solid rifle, it is about the shooter and even with the lower-power scope, one can compete.

Day 2 was individual 600 yards and then a 2 man competition at 300 and 600 yards. Again, we did well but I made two rookie mistakes that cost us some points - I htink we could have easily won the vintage team competition.

Lesson learned - make sure ALL of your screws are tight and make sure your windage knob wasn't jarred.

I'm looking forward to the next match!!

I bet it was a great time, and nothing like being the underdog. Well done Sir.
