    Default SVT 40 Sniper

Picked up an SVT 40 Sniper today. It's a refurb but serial numbers on the receiver, stock and trigger guard match. Bolt is electro penciled. Rifling is strong but dark in the groves. The scope is an original SVT 40 scope With aged scope cover, but the mount is a repro. The Rifle is a 1941 dated Izzy with scope groves and what looks identical to the real machining on the rear of the receiver. The scope has been authenticated as a legitimate SVT 40 scope but who knows with all the forgeries being done. The strange thing is I can not find any import marks on it anywhere. I've stripped the rifle and still could not find any import marks anywhere.

Sounds like a keeper. I remember reading some where that some SVT40's were import marked on the inside of the receiver or something like that. Cheers, Robert

I'm very interested to see it! My local gunshop has a non-sniper version for sale... but it costs a bajillion dollars...

Congrats. These are so nice and very much underrated. Rumours of it not being reliable came about when soldiers didnt know how to care for the rifle IIRC.

    Intresting to see pics!
Izhevsk never officially issued sniper SVT40, they were issued only by Tula (38006 were issued in 1941).
Does yor rifle has any "C" mark?
Some Izzy rifles with notch for mount fixing are know, but it's hard to say when this modification was made - during war or post war.
Usually notch is unacturate, not as at Tula sniper rifles.

Where would I look for the C mark?
