Unknown bolt

Hello mate,
It is for the German 98Az which was a shorter version of the Gew 98 which was the standard German infantry rifle in WW1.
This was used by the "Storm Troopers" who were specialist troops at the time who used to move quickly to exploit weak points in defences. They carried this rifle as it was much easier to used in confined trenches and you would also see them carrying lots of stick grenades which they would throw and follow up straight away after they exploded.

Sorry mate, it is for the 98 Az. I have two in my collection.
The bolt of the Az is flat and knurled on the inside as is the one on the left.
The 98/40 is a ball shaped bolt which was cheaper to manufacture.
Google Mauser 98Az bolt and compare.

Here`s a pic of a 98/40 bolt showing the flat knurled bolt handle,notice the distinctive cocking piece the same as Lokvar`s,also the bolt handle is mid-bolt because the rifle is a split top receiver,that bolt could never go into a 98AZ,check out the link I posted in post #7,but you can call it whatever suits you.....Pete.

You are confused. The M35 has a straight round knobbed bright finished bolt. The German 98/40 and the hungarian M43 both have the turned down bolts and are obviously mannlicher as the rusted item is ...was a mannlicher bolt.
