It is actually an 'Iver Johnson' product, likely made around the turn of the last century
    ( 1900-1910 ) and not a martial or military issue pistol. It's a copy of a 'top-break'
revolver based on a Smith & Wesson design from about 20 or 30 years earlier
    ( 1870's-1880's ).

The name on the gun, for one. Firearm manufacturers used names like:
'American Gun Co.', or as yours: 'U.S. Revolver Co.' as a marketing
strategy. These types were generally of lesser quality - usually
quite plain in compairison to the brand name product.

Also, as Zwerge says, Google 'US Revolver Co.' for more info.........
    Regards,

    Steve.
