    The .30-06 cal conversions were all done post WW1 as the US sold off the surplus and very non standard MN rifles to the civil market-these are regarded as unsafe by modern standards as the .30 rounds are more powerful than the 7.62 x 54mm R- the massive demands for rifles during WW1 resulted in many unexpected issues of non standard weapons in various countries such as Arisakas in 6.5mm going to Britain and Russia, Ross Mk IIs in .303 to the US etc let alone the use of captured weapons.
