As far as I've ever seen, most did have the numbers under the barrel, but, as always, there's many many variations with the little Walthers. I'm assuming it's a war-time vintage one? We'll be able to tell you more, of course, when you get the pictures up, but it sounds interesting! William

There was a serial number range from 820000-845000, I believe. This was a large contract put into Walther by the RZM to supply service pistols to Political leaders. There were later RZMs but IMO it's best to stay in the above serial number range because some with other serial numbers may have been put togethers.

I've also seen examples of the PPK's with KM markings as well. William

N.S.D.A.P. - but the one pictured is outside the serial range which
Erich S. provided. ( It is darn close to the end of that contract
run though - only 72 units ) Hopefully yours will be under
    that 500 mark !

I read on a gun forum that all RZM marked pieces were reserved
for high ranking officials. Even if you find out that it is a later
version, they are nice little pistols, and you probably did
get it for a decent price.........
    Regards,

    Steve.
