Don't know the type

Article about: If I rub that helmet with a cloth with acetone, firstly little spots of the red paint vanish. So I have to continue with rubbing. But when I do that, I rub away the original colour in those

You may have a nice diamond underneath that red paint Please repost a new photo after you have stripped the red paint off.

Please read the link wolfman has provided.

Well a lot of them are not old war helmets I think. They are made after the war especially for the fire dept. You know...they have surely about 60 to 80 helmets. I searched those huge boxes for a while. After 5 minutes I found the old war helmets. But I have not seen all of them. So it's difficult to guess how much war helmets they have.

Where can I get such a paint stripper?

Any "DIY" store which sells paint will sell paint stripper which you can use ok on these. But beware it WILL take off the decals too.

    Cheers, Ade.

OK... I tried it with acetone. I put with an old paintbrush the acetone on the helmet. (only on a part of it) I waited for a couple of minutes, and then I tried to scrape with a plastic scraper. Then I recognized that I scraped also parts of the original paint:

How can I only remove the red paint. Is it right to use such a scraper? How do you do it?

if your using acetone i personally would use a cloth dipped in it & gently work away at a small area at a time no need for scraping then

I did... and there the acetone removed the original black paint , as well.

so I'll try it with a piece of cloth.....
Or could it be that those scrapes were in it before they painted it red?
