Let me start this topic off with a couple of Dutch examples which were given to me over the years. The various variations in covers, makers and branches which used these make them a specialisation on their own.

I love the variety of covers these have.
Can you show some of the liner interiors?
    Cheers.

Quoting emileverbunt, with the info he provided me with:

The shell is manufactured by VerBliFa in 1955. VB55 19S3.The last figures indicate the steel batch number.

The shell is a so called B-helmet for use by non combat organisations. Rejected helmets were marked as B-helmets (Roman numeral II embossed and stamped in white paint) and were handed out to non-military organisations. Such as the Red Cross, Police and civilian workers in the MOD.

In the case of MOD civilian worker's helmets, these were marked additionally, with the capital B (Burger = civilian).

Really nice collection there. I myself just picked one up with the stamp B456B3. Any idea how old it is?

Probably VB456B3. This would mean that it is a VerBliFa helmet produced in 1956.

    Cheers,

Here is a few photos of our M53 - Dressed in burlap and netting that is held in place by a inner tube rubber band, this is a classic example of the Dutch M53 NATO helmet. Under the burlap is a dark OD green shell, produced at the Linnemann & Schnetzer facility and dated 1982 (stamp under visor rim reads L S 82). The OD green plastic liner is unmarked but does poses all of the distinctive features of a Dutch produced liner.

Seems we do have very similar appearing helmets here don't we James, makes you scratch your head and wonder sometimes don't it? I'd like to come across one like your's however with an early US liner and an earlier dated shell. Always have our eyes open
