WWII Italian Pith Helmet. Does anyone know what the + stands for?

Article about: OK, last post of the day...promise....This is a pretty standard M 28 WWII Italian Pith Helmet with feathers. Insignia is Engineer/Sapper but not sure what the + may indicate. I've read it co

    Rich, the feathers are black, just like the one on my Bergsaglieri cappo

    Alpini had a feather and Bersagliari the cockerel plumes.

    Yes, got to find a feather for my Alpini. Got lost over the years....but this pith is not a bergsagliari has a cockeral plume. Probably someone added it over the years. Was with the same owner for many many years before me
