He was one of may favorites, not only "drilling" with "Full Metal Jacket",
but many years before as sergeant Loyce in "The Boys from Company C".
He was a man from my heart, wished he had been my drill-sergeant.
Me......I will never forget him, but there will be many more.

    RIP R Lee Ermey

I am genuinely sad that the Gunny is dead, i heard a good quote today "Death must have taken him in his sleep, because if awake there would have been a hell of a battle" Rest easy R Lee Ermey!...
It's a wasted trip baby. Nobody said nothing about locking horns with no Tigers.

I'm Spartacus, not really i'm Paul!...

Sorry to hear this. He was great in every role, but his inimitable Gunny Hartman is a true cinematic icon and one of the most powerful and intense performances in movie history. I have no idea how many times I have watched the first half of Full Metal Jacket (the whole movie only two or three times) and I inevitably re-watch it every time the movie is re-run on TV (even though I have it on disc anyway).

Sad news indeed. Full Metal Jacket is one of my favourite films, that first half hour, acting, script is superb.......& unbeatable. He will be foreever remembered.

Gunny was a real character and had real character. I will miss him. They broke the mold.

A true character and veteran - best first 10 minutes of any war film ever made!! He will be sadly missed but hopefully remembered.
