    I now have J.W.Gardners medal bar and can say he has both ww1 medals as issued and defence and 39-45 war medal.This to me says he didnt go anywhere near the far east as no medal bar award .

    I agree. The fact that he didn't get the 1939-45 Star means he didn't serve outside the UK or in any operational capacity. Now that we have a second officer in the mix, the whole group makes sense though
