Entered France on August 21st, and captured 5 days later! Well, his chances of survival through the course of the war would have been very low, otherwise.

Indeed Bob. I know for one of the Bn's of the RWF that out of the circa 1000 men at wars beginning less than 20 were still with them at wars end. Obviously some would have been transferred but the rest were either wounded and unable to continue or were KIA.

It must have been a very long war as a POW for so long.

    What a great find.

I checked the pension and service records but didn't find anything. As he wasn't Class Z reserve (or at least not noted on his MIC) I wonder if he had health problems from working in camps/mines with little to eat.

I have a split trio for a POW and he died within a year of coming home after the war.

Captured at Le Cateau 26th August 1914. If I recall 1 SOMLI being sited in an exposed position, which allowed the Germans to approach closely, were quickly overun.
