    Looks to be a Great War era British helmet.

    I do believe that the US used British and French equipment during their early early involvement in WWI .

    I'd wait for more information and then compare to what dealers want for similar examples , 50/75% of their price is around true value .

    Also better photos in natural light would help .

    Wasn't it something like 400,000 MKI helmets the US purchased?

    I've never seen USA written on the front, makes me think it was possibly done at a later date, it also looks repainted but that might just be the light.

    Chris gives sound advice regarding photos and value.

    The painted insignia on WWI helmets is a contentious issue , many collectors feel most of these paint jobs were done after cease fire , for victory parades etc . There is some photograph evidence of there use it combat , but many are believed to have been painted just after the war .
