This chap, a private, is shown here wearing a collar and tie, would this be correct with hospital blue uniform. In normal uniform i would expect a tunic with closed collar, only officers wore collar and tie as normal wear, even in the trenches.

Hi OKW
The short answer to your question is yes!
British soldiers staying in military hospitals or convalscent homes were issued "hospital blues", which basicaly consisted of a white, collar attached shirt, with a red necktie, bright blue serge waistcoat, trousers and jacket.
These were worn with the soldiers own regimental head-dress, (and greatcoat in inclement weather)
Often the blue tunic/jacket was dispense with and the normal battledress blouse was worn, thereby enabling any rank, medal ribbons etc to be visible.
A good reference book for British army uniforms is The World War II Tommy: British Army Uniforms European Theatre 1939-45 In Colour Photographs: by Martin Brayley & Richard Ingram ISBN: 1 86126 190 X
