Hello all, I would like to try and research my newest acquisition. I feel it is safe to say that being awarded The Order of St. Sylvester, this man was a military Chaplin.

Never seen two War Crosses together. It would be good to know
what each of the medals were awarded for. Have you tried to
Google them ? Sometimes it works for me when I never
    thought it would.........
    Regards,

    Steve.

Hey walkwolf: sadly I don't know anything about the recipient. But the St. Sylvester order is one of the highest awards the Vatican can bestow. This version of the medal is the 1905 version when the criteria was amended (sometimes people would just buy them). as for the war crosses, this practice isn't as uncommon as you would think. Italians would usually wear multiple ribbons and of the same medal on their uniform. They eventually created a device to signify multiple awards but the practice still stuck. I've seen this often with ribbons but this is my first time seeing a medal bar like this.

As for research in general. I'm still toying with google and she is a formidable opponent. I tried asking my Uncle who travels to the Vatican on business yearly. But sadly the records are privet. Italian records in general are as easily attainable like American and British ones. I never tried "recipients of multiple war crosses". If that's what you mean. But that sounds like a good idea.

It's also possible that this a WWII piece. The practice of wearing multiple of the same award did still occur durring this time.
