Very nice and a great period piece- no one in Britain talks like this anymore!

Thanks Douglas. Very cool artifact IMHO and as you mention, very archaic language and very evocative of its time. I assume it dates form the first Boer war as it bears the Queens crown, as the second Boer war ended after Victoria's death. The 1st Boer war was 1880-1881 and the 2nd Boer war was 1899-1902.

You are correct Douglas, brain failure earlier. 2nd Boer war it is then.

Wonderful acquisition for your collection Jerry. Congratulations. I have a soft spot for such pieces. Definitely harkens from a different time. And the times have certainly changed. Thanks for sharing it with us.

    Cheers,

    Thanks Harry and Tony.

I have a soft spot for commemorative china and I have about a dozen pieces now in my collection, from Napoleonic through the Boer war and WWI to WWII, with French, Dutch and British items among them.
