Hi Chris bad news Sgt. York's 1911 45 was stolen from him on the way home . I read a great article about it I just can't find it right know. The article gave the serial # so some lucky guy out there might have it in his collection and not even know it. Gary

This is a very cool find. It is something I would love to have found for myself.

We can only speculate, but I would like to think it was actually fired from
Alvin York's pistol, and so if someone else has found .45 bullets in the
exact location and claims they are from Sgt York's Model 1911,
we must assume that this is one of them also..........!

The only hang up with the whole thing is that York was a crack shot
and the bullets would have found their mark - they will not be
scattered about the terrain. The argument would then be
that the bullets passed through their intended subjects.

It was always my understanding that York killed most of his enemies with his 1917 Enfield. The only ones shot with his 45 Colt were supposedly the patrol of 6 Germans that charged him with bayonets, and he hit and killed all 6 of them. The round pictured does not look as if it Hit anyone and went through. The other 22 killed were from his rifle. If there were other spent 45 rounds found in the area, I would have to wonder where they came from. To find a slug from York fired in wartime that Missed sure would be a prize, though. William

As said, it's too bad the Colt is no longer around. That would be the only way to authenticate the round. Otherwise, it is just a nice story.
