Article about: Hello and I hope you don't mind me posting this badge here. I have never seen any restrikes or copies of this badge, but thought I should get some opinion, but I think it is a good original

Patient, hmm, I have heard of this.

Indeed, it only took me a few years to replace the duff cap badge.

I have to say that I think this badge is one of the most striking badges I have ever seen, up there with Welsh dragons, Lancers death or Glory skulls and Heer Adlers.

The cap badge arrived to day and is a real beauty, lovely condition with polished highlights on the obverse, nice maker tablet on the reverse and just a little bit of verdigris around the one lug and a couple of other spots to show it really is that old, ie pre 1917.

I managed to pick up another collar, this time one by the other of the two makers that made this badge. Gaunt made the early examples which I showed previously whilst Firmin made the later versions which are in some aspects quite different from the earlier Gaunt type.

The most obvious difference in the dies is in the area of the necklace, this time not being fretted, which would be a clasic tell of a fake on the Gaunt versions but is correct for the Firmin version (go figure). Also of interest on this Firmin version is the use of two small blades for fixing. This is sometimes seen on Australian and other nations cap/collar badges and is an uncommon but acceptable variant.

Getting originals of any of these is a difficult task but to get a"pair" of collars and a cap badge is pretty cool IMO
