R.F.C. Silver winged badge.

Hello, recently picked this badge up from local fair.
Would this be ww1 period or post war.
More info greatly appreciated.

Never seen this style of fixing used before (Other than on Officers Bronze cap badges)

What size are these? Full size RFC wing or mini Sweetheart style item?

They are not issue or 'real' RFC badges. Typical of a style used for sweetheart badges and the ones with these sorts of tynes were almost always originally a fixed to photo frames and are decorative items. The metal RFC wing is a can of worms, very few can be considered original qualification wings as the time period for official wear is about 2 years, 1912-14, and the pilot force was small. Three makers continued to make them during the war and the majority of any style were unofficial and used as sweetheart tokens or decoration. Some RFC pilots in the mideast used them on uniforms to make laundry easier but this was not commonplace.

Either during or not long after - the RFC ceased to be on March 31 1918.
