What is a hate belt? They look like buttons and pins from different nationalities.

definitely souvenir belts with coins, buttons, awards etc.. Unless you hate Australia, the U.S., Germany, and a couple others at the same time..
Was the hate belt an assumption based on the Iron Cross?

Im curious where and how that term Hate Belt came to exist.

    Who made that up?

I got them from my father who collected them a long time ago. I was trying to do research on them and wasnt sure what they are called.

Dont take this the wrong way and is not directed at you..OK ... and only making a point.......then everyone who has a collection in a display case are called .."Hate Display cases ?

We all have them in one form or another ...almost a Liberal leaning term.

There is no such thing as a hate belt in the collector community. Sounds like a complete PC term that has been made up recently. Honestly from the belts I've seen you post it is a multi national militaria collection of sorts. Buttons, coins, awards from many nations. Looks to be mostly or all WW1 time frame. Someone correct me if I'm wrong please.

Hate belt is a term I "hate" lol. I have noticed it being used over the past several years usually by Americans collectors. Now looking at this one I'd say it was made post WW2 or at least had extra stuff added then. For instance in the first photo I see 2 Australian buttons, a copper AMF button with the map of Australia on it as well as a plastic great coat button with Australian military forces on it, both of these are WW2 issue. But in the second picture I see an Australian collar sized rising sun badge as well as a larger hat sized rising sun. Both of those are English made WW1 examples which were never worn in WW2. I am leaning more towards it being been put together post WW2.

    Cheers
    Luke.
