Tragedy at Fismette , France 1918. Camouflage Helmet, protective mask and records of the NCO 28th Division
This group belongs to Sgt George Fitzpatrick, Company H, 112th Infantry, 28th Division, AEF.
Helmet has the best looking camo finish I have ever seen. Too good. But no surprise, owner of the helmet was a painter in civilian life.
The protective mask also has artwork on it.
Owner of the set lived through a big tragedy at Fismette, France.
Fismette is a village on North bank of Vesle river. Vesle river was at that point 45 feet wide, 15 feet deep. Full of submerged coils of barbed wire, or concertina wire.
Out of 236 men of Company G and H, 112th Infantry only 30 managed to swim across to safety.
Here is one of them.
