Re: Trying to identify an old US war badge
I saw a similar item in a friends collection. It was slightly different in the US shield but it represented all of the service branches as this example does. His also still had the ribbon attached. He said that he was told it was a Spanish American War medal. Something like a victory medal or a veterans commemoration medal. Regardless they still sell for a lot.

Re: Trying to identify an old US war badge
This is part of the membership medal of the Regular and Volunteer Army and Navy Union veterans group formed in 1886 and still active today.

Re: Trying to identify an old US war badge
I have a similiar one issued for participation in the Span-Am War. The symbols represent Infantry, Cavalry, Engineers, Navy and Artillery. The US design is similiar to that found on SAW veterens metal cemetary flag holder / markers.

Re: Trying to identify an old US war badge
Yes, it is indeed a Army/Navy Union Medal. It was one of the first post Civil War Veteran Associations that cropped up to help with Veteran affairs. There were several styles to these and I believe your's was issued around the time of the Spanish American War.

Re: Trying to identify an old US war badge
ckwilliams,
I used to own one and it was disclosed to me what it was from another forum member. They are common to find and there is usually one or two floating around for sale on Ebay.
I apologize that is all I can offer.
