The final page says that my bisnonno was transferred to list 71b (strength of the infantry personnel on leave) of the military district of Catanzaro in September 1930, following the abolition of the military district of Castrovillari. It is signed by Captain Rocco Vitola, Mobilization Officer of the District of Catanzaro.

According to the Act on Army Recruitment of the Army (Royal Decree of August 5, 1927 - Year V - n. 1437, published in the Official Gazette of August 19, 1927, n. 191) a soldier, after the period of active service, was included in the position of "unlimited leave" but he had to be ready to reenter the Army, if called for mobilization or training by displaying posters in public or by shipping precept postcards, and he ceased from all service obligation when he was 39 years old. As such, my bisnonno could have been called back into the military until about 1936.

Thanks for the kind words, all!

I will have to ask my Nonna, but his records do not indicate that he was called up again for military service. I assume that he continued to work as a farmer and to raise a family.

I've made some minor changes to the grouping.

I corrected the ribbons. The rainbow colored victory medal ribbon is now on the victory medal. I obtained a new Italian tricolor ribbon for the participation medal.

I am awaiting 1917 and 1918 year bars that will attach to the participation medal ribbon. Each bar represents a year my bisnonno spent at the front.

If anyone could help me with placement of the medals in this grouping, I'd really appreciate it!

This is what the final grouping should look like once the year bars finally arrive from Italy...
