    Thanks, Vegar!

I arranged the medals in such a way to represent when my Bisnonno earned his medals. The top row of medals were all earned during World War I. The two on the lower right were awarded on the 50th anniversary of the end of WWI.

The post card is a cool addition. Maybe the artist used my great grandfather as inspiration when he created it.

Just added this name plate. Unless I find a photo of my bisnonno in uniform, AND/ OR additional medals/ pieces of insignia that belonged to him... this grouping is now complete.

    Joe,

I have a few of my great grandfathers italian medals from ww1 but I am missing quite a few of them. Who did you contact in italy to replace the medals you were missing?

    Thanks,

    Raider

Hi Raider, thanks for taking a look at my thread! Welcome to WRF!!

I contacted the local military archive in Catanzaro, Calabria via a company called Italiamerica. They informed me of the medals that my bisnonno earned, but they couldn't issue me replacements.

To get replacements, I purchased them on ebay and ebay.it

Thanks for the helpful info Joe!

I already have my great-grandfathers Vittorio Veneto cross and the 50th anniversary medal...i am going to see if I can find the War Merit Cross and the others online

Another quick question...do you recommend using Italiamerica to find my great-grandfathers records or finding another company based on your experience with them?

    Raider

Btw...your collection of medals looks great!

Nicola at italiamerica seems like a nice guy. He's a little pricey, and it can take a while... but I would recommend him.

Wow ,what a great thread i am involved in a similar project that comes from boxes of medals that we always had,i assumed they belonged to my dads great uncles and my grand father but i found a pretty complete set and added a little to complete my great grand fathers. Next year marks the 100th anniversary of the start of WW1 what a great thing it is to have such great mementos,i think your labor of love statement really sums it all up...very well done
