I have done some research and yes they are places in france. But idk if its just me but does the crown of the helmet look higher than most Mk.1's?

does the writing look period to everyone or post war done?

As there doesn't appear to be much original paint left on the helmet its unlikely the paint for the writing is period if applied over that. I would think this is either a souvenier from the visits to the battle fields in the 20's and 30's painted up by a local. Or an old soldier wanted a record of his war and obtained a shell and painted it up, could have been anytime. Or someone has tried to increase the value of a shell by painting the details on it. As there was no difference, i believe, between the British and U.S helmets it could be a British issue shell rather than American.
