    That is the classic U.S. doughboy lid ca. 1917....rough textured OD, broken strap, and suffering from dry rot / bug damage like many.

    Looks fine to me. I had one with a painted decal for sometime, but had to part with it.

    Looks a good example Douglas, not mint but still in good condition for its age.
