Very small WW1 Grouping

Hi this is a ww1 navy hat and a ww1 victory medal that both were issued to my great grandpa ive always been a bit curios on the hat though because they also used that style in ww2 and it has that writing in the inside which doesnt make any sense ebcause that wasnt his name but its a nice little group

Pay no attention to the name in the cap, as sailors then and now have always had a habit of swiping each other's gear and uniform pieces. Guys used to write and stencil their names on everything they could lay their hands to, but it never made a bit of difference. Something as simple as a pillow case, I remember, some of them would have as many as 7 different inked out names on them with yet another written above it all. Things like dress blues caps were always fair game! He was probably lucky that he got out with one that fit him!
