My theory is that this is a British made helmet used by the US Army, if I recall we sent 10,000 Brit made helmets to fledgling AEF. The camo scheme is similar to that I have seen on other US made helmets.

From what I read in late war some troops did the camo to match what the Germans were doing. A lot was done after the war as well. How could I be confident it is a wartime job apposed to post war done for bring backs or tourist sales?
Quite a few us army helmets were painted in this way, there is some debate if they were done post war either ineurope orwhen they went home.

Whatever its just an opinion.
What price could be put on it if there is doubts?
I dont think the paint possibly being done at wars end has any effect on the value. Mind you, if it was done last year, thats a different matter.

So you're saying at wars end or maybe after while the troops still in Europe would be same value? What about 1920-30's up to 1945? Anything after that I would class same as last year.
Thanks
You should always assume the paint was done post war (in theater or on the way home as a souvenir) unless there is iron clad proof it was used in battle. Probably 1,000 to 1 ratio
Just my view however.
That said, we still need to judge if this is a recent creation or original

My greatest fear is that one day I will die and my wife will sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them

Just a side note. See that perfect round white asbestos pad. No wonder they used it, everything else at the dome has been lost from age but not that pad.
