Article about: Hi all, bought this helmet from a junk shop while touring the Ypres Salient battlegrounds, i know its British but whats with all the 'medieval' addon? Any help appreciated.....

    Hi all, bought this helmet from a junk shop while touring the Ypres Salient battlegrounds, i know its British but whats with all the 'medieval' addon?

    I think it is a helet worn by ww1 tank drivers. If it is and authentic then I believe it will be very rare.

    Chainmail may have been added so the helmet can be used by medieval reenactors, my 0.02$. I hope dave is right though

    I would tend to agree with the medieval reenactors theory myself.

    Thanks for comments, it has a H and S stamped one above the other right near the metal 'nose' guard.

    That's probably the makers mark for the original helmet.

    Unforutnatley it is not original. Below is a link to and earlier posting of the real deal.

    The MkII was an improvement on the MkI by adding the nose guard to stop the chain mail slapping against the face, it also allowed it to be flpped up out of the way of the face.
