hi everyone, another charity shop find.
I have no idea about this one so any help would be greatly educational!!
the only reason I gave it a second glance is the medal loops.

It has newer buttons attached, which im assuming was for someone to wear it in civie life, but I found a bag of buttons on the pocket when I got it home, these are all marked with letters, which im assuming are from where it was removed...
maybe the owner was thinking of putting them back on at some point.

I apologise for the poor quality photos! but I can assure you it is black
many thanks in advance for your knowledge!

No tags left, pocket is quite battered.

pretty hard to say as RN items didn't change for the better part of 60 years, aside of crowns. The material quality and nap suggests late 1930's to me. Earlier wool seems have more weight to it and a slightly coarser nap. These were not used much during the war and again not until well into peace time when more proper occasions to wear it began to occur again and the navy was a much smaller force. Formal wear does not attract strong prices as it is fairly easy to find as it all seems to have been cherished, and the only action they saw was at the levee buffet line.
