    Very difficult to say. Looks to be the correct size for wear on the SD Cap. I suspect you will never know for sure.

    WW1 Scots Guards PatchScots Guards officers wear a Royal Stewart patch, so as this one, on both sides of their service peaked caps.
    As stated, it's unlikely to be able to be dated, and a patch of Royal Stewart pattern tartan need not even be military in orgin.
