    This helmet belonged to Pvt Jesse Coen of 19th Balloon Company. 2nd Provisional Aero Regiment.

    Beautiful large Aero roundel on top.

    Jesse really had some fun painting that helmet. Almost did not recognise the A.E.F. lettering. I wonder if he was ever an artist or sign-writer?

    Typically there were one or two people in the Company that did the painting. Jesse probably rubbed the helmet with a rock to make the surface smooth and prepped for painting.

    Well he must have traded quite a few cigarettes for that job as its highly detailed and time consuming.

    The numbers next to "France", would they be dates of service? Maybe front line service?
