Default WWI French Glass Photo Slides with Viewer

I found this at a local militaria store and I have never seen one of these before. It has 29 slides mostly of French soldiers, German prisoners, some American troops, and even a dead German. It is interesting because when you put the slides into the viewer the pictures have depth to them, like you are looking through the camera and not at a picture. Some of the slides have dates and places written on them.

Has anyone else seen anything like this? I am interested in learning more about it and maybe find some more slides to look at.

    Thanks for the help,

    Alec

3D viewers were quite popular back when, but yours is for glass slides,
which are likely harder to find than the card versions. A similar type of
viewer was popular in the 50's and 60's - known as 'Viewmaster'.

I'd check Ebay frequently, as there are a multitude of items and you
never know when something like 'antique 3D glass slides'
    might show up for sale.........
    Regards,

    Steve.

I had no idea that they had things like this back then, very interesting and much better than photos. It looks like there is a few glass slides on ebay right now.

    Thanks,

    Alec

The Victorians were very much into these stereo scope viewers, scenery and the like. If you have a way i'd make copies from the slides as some of the methods used can fade with time and light and it would be a shame to lose them now.
