Here are a couple of pics I dug out regarding the terminology used to describe the EK2 (it can also be applied to other grades). It may be blindingly obvious to some here but to those who are new to the game, I hope you will find them of use.

Great information Adrian
Spidering is caused by rust is this something to be concerned about when purchasing an EK ?
Also which makers had humps ?

Hi Nick,
Yes, the spidering is caused by rust under the paint on the core. It shouldn't put you off buying a cross that has this but be careful not to break the ridge of paint or it may deteriorate. I've got crosses with this and it hasn't progressed, just make sure you keep them correctly, no moisture/humidity, even temperature etc.
Off the top of my head the following makers produced crosses with the hump:
1 - Deschler
2 - Juncker
3 - Deumer
4 - Steinhauer & Luck
7 - Meybauer
22 - Boerger & Co
40 - Berg & Nolte
100 - Wachtler &Lange
122 - JJ Stahl
L/56 - Frunke & Brunninghaus

There is also another EK2 which had a hump, an unknown maker and a rare cross to find. I only know of probably 5 or 6 such examples. The hump on this one is only on one side of the frame although some examples have the hump on both sides.
