    Hello Colin,
    It would be nice if my contribution was/was helpful...
    The bottom line, in my opinion, is that your award is a piece made according to 1957 law (FRG). For a veteran who fought bravely for his country in the Great War (1914-1918) and the War (1939-1945) and survived. His awards were then changed in accordance with the law after 1957 and (continued) worn on appropriate occasions.
