I am new to this forum and not very knowledgable, but can not find any info on what I think is a authentic EK2. I am puzzled by the ribbon that is shown on the enclosed pictures. The cross has a magnetic core, and is maker marked, but I cannot make out the numbers. The court mount backing is not magnetic but feels like metal rather than cardboard. The pin on the mount is rusted and magnetic.
I have spent several hours looking at EK2's online but cannot find a ribbon like this one. I sure hope that someone can help! In previewing the scans I see they are pretty dark -- the front is dated 1939 and the reverse is 1813, numbers are not rounded.
    Please help!

Hi Thomas B. Welcome to the forum !

It is simply an incorrect mount for a WWII Iron Cross, is all.

You would have to find a WWII Iron Cross ribbon for it,
which is easy. Not sure which medal should be there.

Hi Thomas and welcome to the forum.
Steve is absolutely correct, just the wrong cross/ribbon combination.
Do the numerals on the makers mark in the ribbon ring look like they could be '55' or any part thereof - top part or bottom part?

This ribbon is not shown on any German ribbon/medal chart from
WWI or WWII, so it may be pre WWI, perhaps from some other
European nation, or it is for a commemorative........

Thanks to all of you who replied to my post. I really appreciate it.
To: Adrianc -- as I said , the mark is really difficult to dechiper, but my first impression was CC but in certain views it almost looks like 100 -- a mystery mark!
    Thanks all !

I believe your cross is a '55' looking at the dates. The mark could be a '55' and look like 'CC' if you imagine it is just the bottom parts of the '5's showing.
It is definitely not a '100', this maker - Wachtler & Lange produced very distinctive EKs with a generally faint stamp.
