Thought shall be the harder , heart the keener,
Courage the greater as our strength faileth.
Here lies our leader ,in the dust of his greatness.
Who leaves him now , be damned forever.
We who are old now shall not leave this Battle,
But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader

Thanks...I recall seeing a photo of it in "after the battle" magazine....the plinth was there and a much defaced eagle
One photo I was going to get on the last day but we drove by it, I was in a bit of a hurry, the steps and plinth are still there but the Eagle one top of it has been smashed to pieces, but I would say 90% of it yes

Cheers for that mate!!! There is a German War memorial at the site of a former POW camp here in Oz, it was made by members of the 8th machine gun battalion who were captured at El Alamein....it had a huge Iron cross, with hakenkruez on top, that was removed after the war, but it was replaced with a blank iron cross in the 70's....it's still there!!!
Great thread Ben and fantastic vacation.
Thanks for posting.
Cheers.
Nuno
