How did you feel while walking around these historical sites? I think I'd be overcome with emotion. I'd be crying my eyes out at the cemetery.

They are sombre places. The uniformity and repetition of the graves really conveys the numbers involved, ranks upon ranks of them. The battlefields and bunkers make you wonder about the desperate moments that must have occurred in those little concrete rooms and sunken lanes. Like Lars says you can piece together those moments sometimes from what you see. Small flecks of rusted iron embedded in a bunker wall and floor from a grenade, tossed in before an SMG burst through the doorway that scarred the opposite wall. Some of the destruction, like the cracked open bunkers at Pointe du Hoc, is pretty unbelievable.
